The municipality of Meram has won the “Smart Waste Collection System with IoT” award at the 11th Public Informatics Summit, organized by the Public Informatics Association. Meram won the prize with its system that saves fuel, energy and time by directing vehicles only to occupied vehicles, thanks to the sensor installed on underground containers.
KONYA (IGFA) – The municipality of Meram was deemed worthy of an award for its “Smart Waste Collection System with IoT” at the 11th Public Informatics Summit, organized by the Public Informatics Association. Turgay Turhan, Information Technology Manager of Meram Municipality, received the award from Meram Municipality at the summit organized by the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK) with the theme “Informatics for the Future”.

Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Dr. delivered the opening remarks at the summit, which brought together representatives of the public and private sectors. Ömer Fatih Sayan, Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology Zekeriya Coştu and TÜRKSAT A.Ş. It was held by general manager Ahmet Hamdi Atalay. The panel titled “Smart Cities”, held as part of the summit, was moderated by Deputy Managing Director Dr. on behalf of the Directorate General of Geographic Information Systems of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. Akın Kısa did it. The panel also discussed resilient cities, the transformation of electronic systems in vehicles, the digital city twin, sustainable urban management and IoT-based smart waste collection systems.
During the panel where “Smart City Projects” were discussed under the title “Informatics in Local Governments”, Turgay Turhan, Information Technology Manager of Meram Municipality, stated that they aim to send the vehicles of our Environmental Protection and Control Directorate only to vehicles that are full. by attaching sensors to underground containers.
At the end of the panel, the Turhan Meram Municipality Award was presented to Prof. Dr. He took over from İzzet Gökhan Özbilgin.
