Pat Gelsinger Retires, Who Will Be Intel’s CEO?

After four years as Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger is retiring and leaving his position at the companyhe left behind a career spanning more than four decades. Gelsinger has already resigned from the company’s board, effective December 1, 2024.

Intel will now have two interim CEOs to replace Gelsinger while the company’s board of directors appoints his replacement. they are David Zinsner and Michelle Johnston Holthaus. Zinsner is currently Intel’s CFO and one of its executive vice presidents, while Holthaus was recently named CEO of Intel Products, which includes Intel’s Client Computing Division (CCG), Data Center Group and AI (DCAI), and Network and edge Group . (NEX).

Zinsner has more than 25 years of financial and operational experience in the semiconductor and manufacturing industries, as well as in the technology sector. He joined Intel in January 2022 from Micron, where he was executive vice president and chief financial officer. Zinsner has held several leadership positions in his career, including President and Chief Operating Officer of Affirmed Networks and Senior Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Analog Devices.

As for Holthaus, he has leadership experience at Intel, where he began his career nearly 30 years ago. Before becoming CEO of Intel Product, she was Executive Vice President and Director of CCG. In addition to CCG head of sales, he held various management and leadership positions at Intel, including CRO and head of the company’s sales and marketing division.

As for the company’s executive chairmanship, Franke Yeary, Intel’s independent chairman of the board, will also serve on an interim basis. Intel Foundry leadership will remain unchanged. The board of directors has already created a committee that is looking for a definitive replacement for Pat Gelsinger at the head of the company, at a time when Intel is going through a very complicated situation that has led it to more than tangible losses.

In addition to laying off about 15,000 workers this year alone, Intel has suspended its factory construction projects in the European Union. Specifically in Poland and Germany for at least two years. In addition, it restructured several units and gave more prominence to Intel Foundry. However, its restructuring process is not over yet, and Gelsinger’s successors will have to continue it.

Gelsinger joined Intel in 1979 and During his career, he held various positions and became its CTO and play a leading role in focusing the company’s activities on innovation. For him, leading Intel was “honor« and describes the day of its download as «bittersweet because the company has been my life for most of my working career«. He also points out that “It’s been a challenging year for everyone as we’ve made tough but necessary decisions to position Intel for current market dynamics«.
