Tesla is one of the companies that takes the integration of electric vehicles with mobile phones most seriously. Available for iOS and Android, the app lets you access climate controls, check charging status, schedule services and assistance, purchase upgrades, and much more.
Announcing the 2024 Holiday Update, Tesla heralded big news coming soon: its first app for Apple Watch. However, they also detail some additional features that Tesla users will receive.
Your Apple Watch is a key
Using your mobile phone as a car key is nothing new. In fact, the two biggest mobile operating systems allow it to be done on other brands as well. Despite this, Tesla generally has a more complete application than others and provides access to more functions.
The next step was to bring this app to Apple Watch. It will be possible to use Apple Watch as a car key, just like we do with iPhone. All you have to do is press a button to turn it on in a few seconds.
We can also access other functions, such as opening the trunk or activating the air conditioning. These are just two of the functions Tesla is developing, but it is expected that the app will gradually open up to more functions.
With this announcement, Tesla added that with the new update we will be able to send watch mode clips directly to the phone, access the precipitation map directly from the car, plan which battery we want to reach the destination with, and get new alerts when there is something behind us and the car is in reverse gear.
All of these new features will be coming to Tesla vehicles via OTA update next week, so the Watch app is expected to appear on the App Store very soon.
