Firefox looks like it wants to be the browser of choice for users of large-screen Android devices, namely foldable smartphones and tablets. With the arrival of extensions, the browser has been completely revamped and is now targeted with its latest change. Make better use of those huge screens.
The latest version of the browser includes a simple but important change: now all web pages are loaded in desktop mode by default On large screen devices. Now the browsing experience on foldable phones and tablets is closer to the browsing experience on a computer.
Firefox now uses desktop mode by default on tablets and foldable phones. So you can disable it
The ability to access desktop mode via the browser is nothing new; Different web browsers on Android have been offering us this functionality for years. However, the web browsing experience from a large screen like a foldable smartphone or tablet defaults to the mobile version, not the desktop version.
Is it possible to enable desktop mode? Yes of course, but the browser itself has to recognize that it’s a foldable or a tablet and immediately deliver an experience accordingly. That’s exactly what Firefox is starting to do on Android. When visiting a web page the browser loads the desktop version by default, brings the experience closer to PC browsing.
But if for some reason you want to access the mobile version (for example, this version generally consumes less browsing data), you can do so by pressing the three-dot button in the upper right corner. Unchecking ‘Desktop Site’.
On the other hand, if you want to revert this change in Firefox and stop using the desktop version by default, this is still possible. choose to have the browser load the mobile version by default by following the steps below:
- In Firefox for Android, click the three-dot button in the upper-right corner
- We select ‘Settings’
- Then in the ‘Privacy and security’ section we select ‘Site Settings‘
- Finally, we uncheck the ‘ optionAlways ask for the desktop version‘
This change is available in Firefox for Android as of now: application update to version 133and it is already reaching all users. If you have a tablet or mobile phone with a foldable ‘book’ type screen (such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 or Honor Magic V3), web pages will load in desktop mode by default. On the other hand, if you have a ‘Flip’ type mobile phone or a traditional smartphone, Firefox will continue to load web pages in its mobile version by default, as always.
