Schneider Electric introduces the Galaxy VXL. This is a compact and scalable three-phase UPS designed to provide efficient power protection tailored for AI data centers, industrial applications and large electrical systems.

During his digital Accelerated innovationAt this event, Schneider Electric is launching a new UPS designed for modern, AI-related workloads. The Galaxy VXL is a 500 to 1250 kW (400 V) three-phase UPS designed for applications with high energy and reliability requirements. Schneider Electric specifically mentions AI and AI data centers in this context.

The UPS offers a power density of 1042 kW/m² in a 1.2 m² design. With an efficiency of up to 99 percent and up to 97.5 percent, the UPS helps reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions in data centers. Schneider Electric opts for a modular design so that the system can deliver up to 1.25 MW from one frame, expandable to 5 MW by connecting devices in parallel.

The Galaxy VXL is compatible with lithium-ion and VRLA batteries and includes the Live swap-Function. This makes maintenance easier and safer for the infrastructure as the energy supply does not have to be interrupted. Schneider Electric once again points to the requirements of AI data centers.

The Galaxy VXL is equipped with security and surveillance options. The UPS complies with IEC 62443-4-2 cybersecurity standards and supports remote monitoring via Schneider Electric’s proprietary EcoStruxure IT software. This enables users to carry out proactive maintenance, which fundamentally minimizes disruptions.

Schneider Electric has high expectations for the demand for UPS equipment. To meet the expected demand, the company has increased its production capacity. The goal is to roll 9,000 units off the assembly line annually by 2025.

For AI data centers

Schneider Electric expects to add 150 GW of new data center capacity by 2030. The company predicts that 60 percent of these new data centers will be AI-based. 25 percent of them would have to cope with high training loads.

Although Schneider Electric follows the general expectation trend with this forecast, we note that data center operators pointed out during the company’s Innovation Summit earlier this year that there are in fact no AI data centers in Europe yet. The company wants to have the necessary solutions in place when the time comes. Efficiency is an interesting feature for any data center UPS, regardless of the AI ​​context.
