USA deactivated this Thursday tsunami warning upstate California and south of the state Oregon after recording an earthquake of magnitude 7 on the Richter scale.

The earthquake occurred at about 10:44 a.m. local time about 96 kilometers southwest of Ferndale, in Humboldt County, California, near the Oregon border, the US Geological Survey said.

Tsunami warnings have already been canceledextended from Davenport, California to Douglas, Oregon.

Several subsequent aftershocks ranging in magnitude from 2 to 4.2 on the Richter scale were recorded near Petrolia, located in Humboldt County (California), as well as in Cobb, in Lake County.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office said in a brief statement on X shortly before that it had held an emergency meeting with emergency officials “to ensure the safety of Californians.”

No casualties reported as a result of the earthquake

At this time, no casualties have been reported. Local authorities are working to analyze possible damage and support the recommendations of citizens to stay away from beach areas.
