Apple and Sony team up to add support for handheld controllers PlayStation VR2 On Vision Pro, according to Mark Gurman Bloomberg. He writes in the latest Power On newsletter,

Gurman said the partnership has been in the works for months and plans to introduce controllers SonyVR As an additional accessory for Vision Pro users. Gurman notes that PS5 and Xbox controllers already support Vision Pro, but they aren’t optimized for VR experiences because they don’t have the six degrees of freedom (6DOF) needed to fully control VR games.

Considering controllers Sony VR2 Currently bundled with the PlayStation VR2 headset, Sony will need to start selling them as separate accessories, which will likely happen through Apple’s retail and online stores.

Besides gaming, Gurman says controllers can also improve task performance and media editing on VisionOS. This allows users to navigate the operating system using the controller thumb and control panel for scrolling, while the trigger button can replace the pinch gesture for selection.

The timing of the announcement remains uncertain, and companies have already postponed their originally planned openings. The partnership comes at a time when Apple is facing challenges in adopting Vision Pro. According to its sources, Gourmet reported that fewer than 500,000 units have been sold since its launch in February.
