Next year, the rings of the planet, which is the sixth farthest from the Sun and the second largest in the Solar System after Jupiter, will disappear twice to observers from Earth.
It’s all about the tilt of the gas giant: it will rotate in such a way that our planet will be in the same plane as the rings. Therefore, they cannot be seen even by the Earth’s most powerful optical telescope.
According to Stas Korotky, scientific director of the Ka-Dar observatory, the “disappearance of the rings” is expected on March 23 and November 26.
