US authorities are already prosecuting a suspect in the murder of Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, in Manhattan, New York last week.
Luigi MangioneA 26-year-old man was arrested at a McDonald’s restaurant in Altoona, Pennsylvania, with a handgun and a silencer, a weapon “consistent” with the one used in the murder.
Agents also seized a counterfeit New Jersey state identification card in the same name that the suspect used to visit the New York shelter and a document. handwritten in which he spoke about his possible motivesNBC News reports this.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenney said the suspect was eating when an employee recognized him and called police. Mangione, who was arrested on weapons charges, is a Maryland native whose last address is listed in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The suspect shot Thompson last Wednesday in front of the Hilton Hotel and fled the scene on a bicycle, riding through Central Park. Soon after, he boarded a taxi that took him to the Port Authority bus terminal in the heart of Manhattan.
Thompson, 50, who has worked at UnitedHealth for two decades, will lead UnitedHealthcare’s insurance division in 2021. At the time of the murder, he was preparing to attend the annual investor conference of a multinational corporation.
Luigi Mangione had a manifesto in which he directly mentioned UnitedHealthcare, emphasizing the company’s size and its profits, the Baltimore Sun reports. The manifesto also widely condemns healthcare companies for putting profits before care.

The Mangione family also founded nursing home company Lorien Health Services. The family business also included ownership of a radio station, which broadcasts politically conservative programs.
