Microsoft 365 outage: web applications offline

There is a malfunction at Microsoft. The Microsoft 365 web apps are currently offline.

Microsoft announced in an X thread that there was a bug. Among other things, the web applications of Outlook and Teams, which are currently offline, are affected. The company advises users to initially use the desktop applications until a solution is found. The company is still investigating the root cause.

We’re investigating an issue where some users may be unable to access Microsoft 365 apps for the web. We're reviewing service monitoring telemetry to isolate the root cause and develop a remediation plan. For more information, please refer to OO953223 in the admin center.

Second failure in two weeks

This is the second Microsoft 365 outage in two weeks. On November 25th, Exchange Online and Microsoft Teams were down. Microsoft announced in the X thread that it had identified a problem with token generation. This isn’t the biggest problem, but it can add to the impact. Microsoft believes disabling proactive caching can resolve this issue.

Microsoft directs users to the Admin Center for more information, but according to a response to the X thread, that service is also offline. This article will continue to be updated as further communications follow.

Updated on October 12, 2024, 5:00 p.m: The problem has been resolved according to Microsoft. All web apps are operational again.
