Microsoft has given Copilot a keyboard shortcut and a new interface in the taskbar in Windows 10 and 11.
Microsoft is rolling out an update to Windows Insiders that changes the way Copilot appears in the taskbar. This gives Copilot a quick view in the taskbar, which should provide a better experience than the previous Progressive Web Application (PWA).
Confusing key combination
Copilot’s new Quick View hovers over the taskbar and can be viewed using the Alt + Spacebar keyboard shortcut. The window always remains above other applications, writes Microsoft in the Windows Insider Blog. Other Windows apps already use the Alt + Spacebar keyboard shortcut, so it can be confusing which app uses this keyboard shortcut. Windows assigns the keyboard shortcut to the application that was launched first. The Copilot key on the keyboard of the latest Windows laptops also continues to work.
This is a step towards an integrated Copilot user experience in Windows, although it is still the web version. Both the interface and keyboard shortcut are available on Windows 10 and 11, although support for Windows 10 ends in October 2025.
