Barely a day after OpenAI made Sora available, registrations have already closed. Demand seems to be much higher than expected.

Yesterday OpenAI introduced Sora to the general public. Although EU countries have not yet been involved in this rollout, the tool is still much more popular than expected worldwide. Sora’s available capacity is insufficient to meet demand, so creating new accounts is temporarily not possible.

It will take some time before everyone can access Sora. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, says his company is studying how to achieve this as quickly as possible. The high demand and additional capacity issues are not good news for curious European users, who will have to wait even longer to try out the tool.

Video LLM

Sora is an LLM that can generate short videos. These videos are based on photos, descriptions or even other videos. Clips currently have a maximum length of twenty seconds at a standard resolution of 480p, although the LLM can also create clips at a higher resolution.

Sora is far from perfect. For example, the LLM finds it difficult to map long, complex tasks or to adequately take the laws of physics (such as the correct effect of gravity) into account.

With Sora, OpenAI takes another important step in the performance of LLMs. OpenAI promised to make Sora available before Christmas, but it now seems unrealistic that everyone will have access before the end of the year.
