Valve has started selling refurbished Steam Deck OLED handhelds. Certified by the brand and with the same warranty as if they were new, they are available in regions such as the United States or Europe and a good way to buy with a discount these gaming devices.
The OLED version of the Steam Deck hit the market late last year, and as the name suggests, it has a better screen than the original LCD model. Also longer battery life and slightly better performance. Although it does not match the performance of others like the ASUS ROG Ally X, it benefits from its usability and the huge popularity of the gaming platform.
These are refurbished units returned by customers due to various circumstances. Valve promises they have been thoroughly cleaned and tested using the same testing process used for new units. “There are no differences in technical or functional specifications between refurbished and new units, but minor cosmetic defects may occur.”.
All units are thoroughly tested to meet the same quality standards as new units for sale. They undergo a complete factory reset, software update and an extensive check that includes more than 100 tests in one of Valve’s facilities. These tests include verification of all control inputs, sound system, screen and internal components. Battery health is also evaluated, which is a critical point with all these portable devices.
Each certified refurbished unit it has the same warranty offered on a new unit. “If you have a problem with your unit and the problem cannot be resolved, it will be replaced with another certified remanufactured unit”they explain from Valve. The warranty period is at least one year, unless the country of sale has regulations for a longer period, such as two years in Spain. Valve explains that the refurbished OLED Steam Decks are not the same ones sold by GameStop as they are refurbished in their facilities.
Valve promises that the only difference between the new units is “minor cosmetic defects” such as small smudges or scratches (on the plastic cover, not the screen) that normally occur during normal use of the unit.
We are currently seeing a patched version 512 GB at a price of 459 euroswhile that 1 TB costs 549 euros. A significant reduction in the price of new models by 110 and 120 euros respectively. Refurbished LCD screen versions that were already part of the program are also for sale, although they were out of stock at the time of writing.
