The American network ABC News will have to pay 15 million dollars President-elect Donald Trump following a bipartisan agreement after the Republican sued the network for defamation in March of this year.

“ABC News and George Stephanopoulos regret the statements made about President Donald Trump. during George Stephanopoulos’ interview with Representative Nancy Mace V this week on ABC on March 10, 2024,” CNN reports the network will publish an editor’s note on the article that is the subject of the lawsuit.

An ABC News spokesperson expressed his satisfaction in a statement: “We are pleased that the parties have reached an agreement on dismiss the claim by way of judicial representation.”

Trump sued ABC News and its anchor Stephanopoulos in March 2024, alleging defamation following an interview with Republican Representative Nancy Mace in which Stephanopoulos repeated several times that the jury found Trump guilty of rape. as for the allegations by Jean Carroll, who accused Trump of raping her in the 1990s, an allegation he has denied.

In 2023, a jury found that Trump sexually assaulted Carroll. although he was not found guilty of rape. Carroll received $5 million for assault and libel, and another $83.3 million in January 2024 for Trump’s statements. In August 2023, a judge ruled that Carroll’s rape charge was “substantially true.”

Trump said Stephanopoulos’ statements were “false, deliberate, malicious and intended to cause harm.” In July 2024, a judge rejected ABC News’ request to dismiss the lawsuit because Stephanopoulos’ allegations differed substantially from the jury’s verdict that found Trump not guilty of rape.

The tycoon continues the history of lawsuits against the media: including a $10 billion lawsuit against CBS for an interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, accusing her of election interference.
