Israeli bombing of refugee zone kills at least 20 people

At least 20 people were killed, including several children, in an Israeli bombing of a UN Palestine Refugee Agency (UNRWA) school west of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.

According to Gaza Civil Defense, the attack reached Ahmed Abdel Aziz Schoolwhich houses displaced people near the Nasser Medical Complex.

The Israeli army has not yet commented on the attack, nor has UNRWA.

Bodies were scattered throughout the damaged building, which served as a shelter for Palestinians displaced by the war and was still burning as people searched for survivors and tried to move the bodies.

Israeli strikes killed at least 53 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, including a journalist and rescue workers, doctors said.

The Israeli military said its air and ground forces in the north of the enclave killed dozens of militants and captured others.

The war began when the Palestinian group Hamas stormed Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking more than 250 hostages back to Gaza.

Israel then launched an air and ground offensive that killed nearly 45,000 people, mostly civilians.
