Nvidia is expanding the Jetson Orin lineup with a new model to make AI more accessible and affordable for developers and hobbyists.

Jensen Huang invites us into his kitchen to take the latest Nvidia Jetson Orin Nano Super out of the oven. This is a powerful AI computer that fits in your hand and is the latest addition to the Jetson Orin range. The computer is intended to support robotics and edge AI applications, making this technology more accessible to developers and hobbyists.

Small but nice

Although Nvidia saves on the size of the computer, it does not do so on the inside. The Jetson Orin Nano Super Computer is equipped with Nvidia Ampere GPUs that deliver up to seventy trillion TOPS. According to Nvidia, the new model makes a seventy percent jump in performance and fifty percent in memory compared to the previous Orin Nano, justifying the word “Super” in the name.

“We gave the Orin Nano a cape and turned him into a superhero. The word “super” refers to two things: more performance for half the price,” Nvidia said in a response to SiliconAngle.

The computer is powerful enough to run the currently most popular generative AI models, Huang explains in the announcement video. This makes the developer kit an accessible platform for creating and designing applications to use AI models in an edge context, such as robotics or the Internet of Things. This will immediately fill the bingo card with keywords.

Developer kit

The Jetson Orin Nano Super is available in a developer kit that includes a Jetson Orin Nano Super, an application prototyping platform and a reference architecture for edge AI applications. Nvidia provides the developer kits with software updates to further improve performance. The cost of the entire package is $249: an ideal Christmas gift for the AI do-it-yourselfer.
