The US military has approved the transfer of one of two Spot robot dogs developed by Boston Dynamics to clear the Ukrainian region of mines and other munitions
According to Ukrinform, Foreign Policy reports.
The robop will be used to destroy mortar shells and cluster munitions in formerly Russian-controlled areas near Kyiv, according to Chris Watley, executive director of demining company HALO Trust, which has several contracts with the US government to work in Ukraine.
Spot could help move ordnance into the pit by allowing diggers to safely detonate 50 to 100 rounds from civilians, and without jeopardizing any of the 10 HALO crews currently operating in Bucha and Brovary.
It is stated that intelligence agents are increasingly using robots in the field to reduce the risk of undermining people.
“Overall, the Spot is an effective tool to protect people from danger, and the robot is often used to view potentially hazardous materials from a safe distance,” said Nicholas Noel, director of marketing and communications.
As Ukrinform reports, the robot dog Spot from Boston Dynamics took part in military exercises conducted by the French military.
