South Korean technology giant Samsung has recently announced a new sensor for high-end smartphones, the 200-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HP3.

The ISOCELL HP3 sensor is the successor to the ISOCELL HP1 with 0.64μm pixels, while the HP3 has 0.56μm smaller pixels.
At the same time, Samsung is introducing a new technology called Epic Resolution Pro, which serves to achieve an upgraded and professional-grade resolution.
Overall, the new ISOCELL HP3 has a pixel size of less than 12% and can even allow about 20% of the surface area of the photocamera module to be reduced. The HP3 sensor also supports video recording up to 8K to 30 photograms per second and 4K recording at 120fps. It is very useful to be able to record high resolution video with minimum loss in visual field, especially at 8K resolutions.
Another very important feature in the new sensor is Tetra2pixel technology. Simply put, this grouping technology precedes the camera sensor combining four pixels (AKA quad-grouping) to deliver brighter images in low lighting scenarios. Samsung’s new HP3 sensor manages to combine 16 pixels into a single pixel. In theory, this should allow the camera to offer an oversized pixel sensor that will absorb more light for better performance in the evening scene.
