The French army will receive the American SwitchBlade unmanned aerial vehicles. According to the news of Defense News, the country’s army has started the process of purchasing kamikaze unmanned aerial vehicles developed by AeroVironment.
Colonel Arno Gujon, head of the French army’s planning department, said the army plans to acquire new drones within six months. According to him, the military is looking for weapons that will differ from mines and artillery shells.
The French Ministry of Armed Forces added that the country has filed a request for the sale of SwitchBlade. The agency also talked about the preparations for a “long-range operation with remote-controlled ammunition” that will start in 2023 within the scope of the Colibri and Larinae projects.
Anonymous officials said the project aims to find a solution to destroy armored vehicles at a distance of 5 to 50 kilometers. Promising weapons can be demonstrated in 2024.
