Recall briefly: Russians began to mass complain on the network about the 404 error when trying to download Windows 10 and 11 from the Microsoft site. Nor can you get the Media Creation Tool to download and upgrade Windows. The problem was solved very easily – with a VPN. If you connect to a server in one of the European or United States countries, everything works fine. At the same time, in early March, Microsoft announced the cessation of sales of goods and services in Russia due to the attack on Ukraine. Since February 24, Microsoft has significantly reduced its business in Russia, laid off 400 employees, but continues to work with schools and hospitals, which do not want to leave because of the difficulties these institutions may face.

why were there problems

The so-called “journalists” of the Russian edition of “Kommersant” say that the descriptions of different Microsoft employees differ.

  • Initially, the company’s English support informed them that the 404 error was due to a technical glitch and forwarded it to their colleagues for clarification.
  • In turn, he said the restriction was due to “government orders” where a number of files could not be downloaded or uploaded in Russia and Belarus.

The support service does not specify what this prescription is. Sanctions also make no mention of such restrictions.

Meanwhile, local market experts continue to insist that this is a technical error, although its arguments are very controversial. That’s why the propagandists cite Mobile Research Group analyst Eldar Murtazin, who substantiated his position by saying that “the problem is solved with the help of VPN”. Other analysts are not so optimistic. According to them, the company will gradually reduce its activities in Russia and at some point will even be deprived of service and constant updates of the system that still exists today.
