Milrem Robotics and Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace have teamed up to conduct the first medium-sized robotic tank combat exercise based on the Milrem Type-X (RCV) robotic combat vehicle equipped with the Kongsberg Protector (RT-40) remote-controlled turret. .
Successful training in combat shooting on stationary and armored vehicles is part of a joint Nordic Robotic Wingman (NRW) project led by Milrem and Kongsberg to create a combat robot that meets the requirements of NATO and European countries.
The idea is to create a robotic machine that can support both main battle tanks and infantry fighting vehicles while providing the unit with equal and greater firepower and tactical capabilities.

Although the tests used an armless ammunition-fed 30mm Bushmaster gun, the Type-X can carry up to 50mm guns, as well as anti-tank missiles and a reconnaissance drone.
The Milrem component is a motor and control module that includes artificial intelligence and is capable of autonomous navigation and obstacle detection at waypoints. Additionally, it has an indirect drive that provides the best remote control at higher speeds.
