It is increasingly common for people to resort to cosmetic procedures to change their appearance, and these options include subcutaneous injections.

In recent years, a large number of cases have been known of people experiencing post-operative problems due to the use of biopolymers in their aesthetic procedures.

Biopolymers are molecules of different synthetic or organic origin, illegally obtained from paraffin, liquid silicone, bone cement, industrial oil and other substances.

People are deceived by the false promise of increasing the volume of different parts of the body without warning of the possible consequences.

These processes do not always go well. There are times when the body does not recognize these substances and reacts by creating an inflammatory reaction that can be minimal or severe.

According to medical experts, when this happens, iatrogenic allogenosis, also known as biopolymer disease, or a reaction to a foreign body occurs.

Use of biopolymers

The reaction to this foreign body, which is sometimes accompanied by infection, may occur immediately after application or even months or even years later.

The symptomatology begins with regular pain, redness, or discomfort in the area where the biopolymers are applied. The patient may also experience discharge or pus from the area and, in more severe cases, deformity and swelling.

These substances diffuse into the tissues and cause inflammation and infection, so in most cases, surgical intervention is required to wash, debride, and sample the tissues.

The destruction of tissues created by biopolymers can deform the area of the body to which they are applied and requires a restructuring process.
