The launch took place from the Australian Northern Territory spaceport at around midnight local time on Monday.
The rocket is expected to fly more than 300 kilometers into space. Its mission is to observe the Alpha Centauri A and B constellations.
This event also went down in Australian history as the country’s first commercial space launch.
According to NASA, two more rockets are scheduled to be launched from Australia on July 4 and 12 to conduct astrophysical research only possible from the Southern Hemisphere.
As Ukrinform reports, the French company Arianespace has successfully launched the Ariane 5 launch vehicle with two communications satellites on board.
