Rumors of a cheap iPad are nothing new. What’s more, I think I heard the first one a few hours after Steve Jobs took the stage in one of his last and memorable keynotes on January 27, 2010, confirming the huge amount of rumors and information leaks that already warned us about the arrival of the tablet. Apple. And it’s not that it was a particularly expensive device, for what it was at the time, but we already know that the combination of the name of any Apple device and the word cheap always goes up.

It is true that Apple sometimes flirts with the concept, in my opinion on their part a very clever move. For example, in the case of the iPhone, the SE models are a long-awaited (until launch) cheap iPhone for many users. And it was its launch, the successful launch of its second generation, that had a lot in common in 2020 with the spread of rumors about a hypothetical cheap iPad, which unfortunately did not materialize.

Be that as it may, to a greater or lesser extent, the truth is that the conversation about the still hypothetical cheap iPad has never stopped and with a focus on the present has intensified significantly in recent weeks as a result of a new prediction by Mark Gurman. An analyst specializing in those of Cupertino suggests this Apple will launch a cheap iPad with a USB-C port later this year.

The expected cheap iPad would arrive with USB-C

This cheap iPad, which is currently referred to as the iPad 10, would give small jump in screen size compared to the previous generation, from 10.2 to 10.5 inches. A small change yes, but it would allow the integration of a slightly larger battery, which, together with the efficiency of the latest A Bionic SoC companies, would point to autonomy, which could be one of its main advantages.

In terms of connectivity, It seems that Apple is already starting to do its homework in migrating to USB-C. As we told you a few weeks ago, the procedures have yet to be completed, which will happen between September and October, after which a two-year countdown will begin, so all devices sold in the European Union will be required to use the USB-C port for charging. The fact that this long-awaited cheap iPad already has this port would be a pretty clear sign that Apple has finally given up and accepts the standard.
