The orbital spacecraft of the Chinese space mission “Tianwen-1” has sent back to Earth new photos of the entirety of Mars, after flying over the Red Planet more
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by Reuters.
Among the images taken from space were the first images of Mars’ south pole taken by a Chinese probe.
Other images of “Tianwen-1” include photographs of a 4,000-kilometer-long canyon known as the Mariner Valley and located on northern Mars, known as Arabia Terra.
The space probe also sent high-resolution images of the rim of the massive Maunder Crater, as well as an overhead view of Askryskaya Mountain, an 18,000-meter-high shield volcano first discovered more than 50 years ago by NASA Mariner 9.
As Ukrinform reported, the Tianwen-1 space mission, consisting of an orbiter, a landing module and a rover, was launched from the Wenchang spaceport on July 23, 2020.
On May 15, 2021, a Chinese rover successfully landed on Mars, making China the second country after the United States to directly explore the planet.
According to the plan, the rover “Zhuzhong” should start looking for signs of life on Mars.
