A new beta version of the Samsung Internet v18 browser has been released, one of the most important innovations of which is the option to recognize text on images – it can be selected to translate or copy, as well as share the sharing function. The trick is that this innovation is only available on devices with One UI 4.1.1 firmware (based on Android 12). It’s also unclear whether this feature is truly exclusive to Samsung devices or whether it’s available for any device with Android 12.
To select the text in the image, simply call the context menu with your long finger and select the option Extract text (“Remove text”). The browser will then highlight the recognized characters that can be selected. It is unclear whether there are language restrictions – the system recognizes English, but the support of others – unknown.
Other innovations include an improved display of the toolbar. It can be at the bottom of the screen or above the search bar, depending on the screen size. The lower position will be activated on typical smartphone models, and the upper – on gadgets with large screens, such as tablets and advanced devices. Among other things, Samsung Internet v18 Beta improved its anti-tracking technology (methods like CNAME are no longer scary) and switched to the default HTTPS.
