The company released an updated prototype of its Mojo Lens lenses in March, but at that time the device had not yet passed the necessary pre-clinical and safety tests, so the initial tests were conducted without direct eye contact – the developers simply examined it. lens. Mojo Lens works independently thanks to batteries built directly into the lens case. This power was provided by a wireless system close to the device but inconspicuous. Contact may be lost during use, so the battery has been shifted to the sides of the lens. Necessary components are placed in the interior closer to the nose so as not to obstruct peripheral vision.

Inside is also a screen with a diameter of less than 0.5 mm and a resolution of 14 thousand pixels per inch – according to the developers, this is the smallest MicroLED display with such a high pixel density. The lens also has several sensors, including an accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer, that monitor head position and eye movement, immobilizing the image and allowing you to control the interface hands-free.

Prior to this, a journalist from the IEEE Spectrum was able to partially test the Mojo Lens without wearing contact lenses. He tested several applications already built into the device: a navigation system with a compass and direction of movement, a service for viewing the ordered taxi in augmented reality, a quick program for displaying text.

Unlike earlier prototypes, the full version of the Mojo Lens lacks the lens used to shoot and operate the thermal imager. The company’s vice president said that these are not the main functions of the lenses, but will later be added to a full-fledged device. In addition, previous versions had image sensors that help correct poor vision.

Until now, we use the functions built into smartphones for the visually impaired – you can take pictures of objects and view images on the lens by changing the scale. We will add a separate feature soon, but we decided to simplify the device.

The main problem faced by the developers was oxygenation – the delivery of oxygen from the lens to the eye. It is impossible to wear the device for a long time without it. Mojo Visions has developed a system of special channels and a lens design that allows oxygen to penetrate, so wearing AR lenses should be no different than using traditional lenses.

The company plans to continue live testing and pass all necessary clinical trials in parallel. So far, Mojo representatives have not disclosed the approximate timing of the lenses’ release – according to them, it depends primarily on the speed with which they get an FDA license (Food and Drug Administration Health Quality Office).

Instead, the company is already predicting the price: it should be higher at the initial stage, but in the future it is planned to fix the price at the level of flagship smartphones. “Be aware that many people in the United States already spend $500 on regular glasses so this amount can be deducted from the final price of our device,” said Mojo Visions vice president.
