An authorized insider, Ming-Chi Ko, said that Apple will continue to buy modems for iPhones from Qualcomm. The expert reported this in his report. excitement.
According to Ko, Apple has been trying to produce its own 5G modem for smartphones for the past few years. But the company has failed in this task and will therefore continue to rely on the components of the partners.
An insider also noted that the American company plans to replace chips from Qualcomm with its own equipment. However, Apple will purchase a modem from a partner until at least 2023, as the company’s engineers have not been able to come up with a decent alternative.
The expert dismissed his own prediction that in the coming years the IT giant will buy only 20 percent of the modems from third-party suppliers and independently produce the rest. According to him, it will take years to develop modems – the company needs not only to create the device, but also to test it on the iPhone.
