Starlink approved for use on aircraft

Today, the US Federal Communications Commission granted SpaceX permission to use the Starlink satellite internet system in moving vehicles, including cars, trucks, boats and airplanes.

Last March, SpaceX filed with the US Federal Communications Commission to allow the use of Starlink Earth Stations’ Moving terminals in moving vehicles. To connect to the system and receive broadband Internet access, customers must purchase a personal ground antenna or terminal designed to communicate with Starlink orbiting satellites above them. Until now, these antennas had to be in a fixed place to enter the system.

The FCC has now accepted the request from SpaceX and another satellite company, Kepler Communications. Still, the FCC said Kepler and SpaceX must abide by future rules.
