The MacBook Air 2022 will be available starting Friday, July 15, according to a retail channel source cited by MacRumors. A week earlier, on July 8, Apple would open the early booking phase.

MacBook Air 2022 was one of the big announcements of WWDC 2022. A developer conference focused on software (iOS 16, watchOS 9, iPadOS 16, macOS Ventura…), but Apple always uses it to introduce new hardware, such as the 13-inch MacBook Pro advertised in key note and went on sale a few days later.

Another of the announcements – the most interesting of the new lineup in my opinion, as it potentially appeals to a larger number of users – was the new ultra-portable Air series. Apple has been redesigned from the ground up and managed to reduce the already minimal dimensions thickness 11 millimeters and weight 1.24 kg. In addition, it maintains the attractiveness of the unibody design with careful surface treatments and the typical passive cooling of the series, which avoids the need to install annoying fans.

Its screen is also new, with a Retina Liquid Display panel from 13.6 inches, a native resolution of 2,560 x 1,664 pixels and brightness boosted to a maximum of 500 nits. You can connect up to 24 GB of RAM updated to the LPDDR5 standard and 2 TB of storage capacity (SSD M.2 PCIe) in the maximum configuration.

All in all, the big news is the new M2 SoC, with Apple continuing to make progress in the hardware transition from Intel x86 to ARM. We have already told you about this integration. An improvement over the M1 with 5nm production and 20 billion transistors, a CPU with eight cores (four high-performance and four to improve efficiency and lower consumption) and an integrated GPU that comes in two variants with 8 or 10 execution units. Apple is aiming for a performance increase of 18 and 25% over the M1 in computing and graphics performance, respectively.

Autonomy has also improved. Apple says the MacBook Air 2022 will be able to deliver up to 18 hours of video playback in the Apple TV app and up to 15 hours of wireless web browsing, for which it has Wi-Fi 6 support. Two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports compatible with DisplayPort, Bluetooth 5, a minijack connector for headphones and four speakers and zp. MagSafe for charging complete the connection section.

If the source cited by MacRumors is correct, Apple’s new ultralight will be available starting July 15 with four color finishes, macOS upgradeable to “Ventura” next fall, and configurations starting €1,519 in Spain. It’s not a budget series like anything from Apple, but it looks very, very good and we’re sure it’s going to be a bestseller.
