Google has been testing a split keyboard mode for Gboard for a while now, and it could even select users in beta. However, this feature will eventually be rolled out to all users, but is currently still in beta version of the app. Gboard version 11.9.04.

Google has made sure that the app is optimized and that Gboard works properly, especially on complex devices. For those who don’t know, it’s been three years since the first generation of foldable phones launched, and almost every buyer was limited to using the Samsung keyboard if they wanted a split keyboard mode. Now, the latest beta version of Gboard actually brings you this feature.

If you want to use Gboard’s split keyboard feature, all you have to do is go to the keyboard button layout in the keyboard toolbar and select the appropriate option. When in split mode, the keyboard displays multiple keys on both sides, making typing easier. As usual, the layout is available in black or white, and you also get access to Material You elements that Samsung’s keyboard hasn’t seen before.

Another benefit of this update is that Gboard really remembers which layout you prefer on the cover screen and inside screen. This way, you can revert to a normal layout when using a pop-up screen and split the layout when using a folding screen. It’s worth noting that this feature is not available on tablets, but Google has promised to bring the feature to tablets as well. Source
