The New York state government has purchased more than 800 companion robots for the elderly. They went to homes for the elderly.
The robots, called ElliQ, are designed to help single people aged 65 and over. Similar to the voice assistant Siri, ElliQ can answer questions, have a casual conversation, set reminders and much more.
“There are many features that draw us to ElliQ: a proactive tool that remembers human interactions, focusing on health and wellness, stress reduction, sleep, hydration, and more,” said the director of the New York State Office. “It focuses on what is important to people: creating memories, connecting with friends and family, and promoting overall health and well-being.”
Analysts say the health effects of loneliness and isolation are equivalent to smoking about one pack a day; it’s a scary everyday reality for many seniors in America.
