Too frequent use of smartphone can affect memory corruption

Doctors have linked the increased use of smartphones to the development of dementia and other degenerative diseases. This was reported by The Guardian.

Experts interviewed by the publication revealed the effect of the smartphone on the deterioration of memory. According to doctors, those who rely too heavily on a tool to fail to remember certain information are at increased risk of developing dementia and other degenerative diseases.

According to neuroscientist Chris Bird, using a laptop, computer or phone allows a person to free up memory and get more tasks done at once. “Our brains are not adapted to remember very specific, one-time things,” the author said. His colleague Oliver Hardt emphasized that the less a person relies on their own memory, the higher their addiction to smart devices.

Hardt noted that he does not have precise data on the effect of smartphones on memory, but he believes that using the devices too often in the long run will cause an increase in degenerative diseases.

“One of the things that interferes with our brain’s ability to shift memories from short-term storage to long-term storage is distraction,” said technologist Linda Stone. According to him, if a person is too often distracted by gadgets, some memories will disappear from his long-term memory.
