Spotify was according to various sources the tenth most downloaded app in 2021. Its file on Apple Play is responsible for one billion downloads and also according to the data of the end of 2021, the service remained the most used in its sector with a market share of 31%, compared to 15% for Apple Music and 13% from Amazon Prime Music. You may like it more or less, but it is undeniable that we are talking about a market leader, in addition to (or perhaps as a result of) the company that opened this market to the general public back in October 2008.
Of course, being the market leader is a great achievement, but it also brings some disadvantages, for example, any incident is more noticeable than if experienced by one of its competitors, since up to 422 million users recorded volume at the end of the first quarter of this year can be without service, which they use to listen to music and podcasts regularly. 422 million users, more than 5% of the planet’s global population.
I don’t know what proportion of them use the Spotify Android app to access the service, but I don’t think it’s too bold to assume it’s the majority, if only because Android has a bigger market share than iOS. And as we can read in Softpedia, Spotify users on Android are starting to experience an issue preventing them from accessing the serviceand in the current situation it does so permanently.
The problem that Spotify would already work on has already hit a few users who have tried it change the storage location or after logging out of the application. In both cases, when trying to restart the Spotify app, it freezes at the beginning with the service logo, and there is no way to get past this point, which will prevent affected users from accessing the catalog.

The problem is that the error seems to be permanent, according to some reviews like this one:
«I tried changing the download storage from internal to SD card. But then Spotify restarted and the black loading screen with the Spotify logo just appeared. I tried restarting the phone, reinstalling the app (with and without the SD card inserted in the phone), downloading an older version, and doing a clean install, but nothing worked. Every time I try to open the app I get a black screen with the logo and nothing happens until my phone shuts down. Spotify still works on my PC and my phone has plenty of storage space»
So it seems that under certain circumstances the Spotify app makes some change that persists in the operating system even after the app is uninstalled. Our recommendation is without a doubt don’t update the Spotify app on Android unless absolutely necessary and that you avoid performing either of these two operations until the cause of the problem is discovered and the company can fix it.
