Component supplier for iPhone announces a price hike

Mobile processors for Apple smartphones are produced by the Taiwanese manufacturer TSMC. The new A16 Bionic chips for the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max will also be produced on their own lines. However, they seem more expensive.

Japanese chemical company Showa Denko KK expects to raise the prices of key materials for chip manufacturing, which will impact the industry. Therefore, prices for the production of processors will rise, resulting in higher prices for electronics in general.

According to the source, after a 20 percent price increase last year, TSMC plans to increase prices to 8 percent this year. In the case of Apple, this will lead to a price increase for the entire iPhone 14 series, but it is still difficult to say how much the final cost of the smartphones will increase.

It is possible that the prices will increase mostly in the Pro/Pro Max model, which is attributed to the A16 Bionic processor. The youngest models are said to have the overclocked A15 Bionic. As for the timing of the announcement, the innovations are expected to show in September. There is no exact date yet, but production will begin in August. Source
