The Times reported that China has created an artificial intelligence system that can assess the loyalty of Communist Party members. The program tracks facial expressions and reads people’s brainwaves while viewing material supporting party policies and achievements.

According to the publication, information on the development was released in open access on July 1 by Hefei’s comprehensive national science center. However, the article soon disappeared from the Internet: probably due to public dissatisfaction.

In the article of the science center, it was stated that 43 people have already passed the AI ​​test. In the remote video, the subject entered a booth where he sat in front of a screen and watched articles promoting the party’s policies and achievements. It is unclear how the brainwave reading technology works, whether it is in a private room or how the system will be used to monitor millions of Communist Party members.

In the article, it was stated that the developed technology will strengthen the “confidence and determination” of the members of the organization to “be grateful to the Party, listen to the Party and follow the Party”. According to the intent of the creators, the results obtained will also help improve and enrich the political education program.

The ruling Communist Party of China, led by President Xi Jinping, believes “thoughts and political training” are necessary for loyalty to the organization.

The party already has an “ideological cultivation practice” for its members called “Xuexi Qiangguo” or “Working to Make China Strong”. Used by 96 million Chinese who earn points by reading articles, watching videos and answering questions about communism. Received points can be exchanged for gifts – from pastries to devices from the nearest cafe.
