NASA National Aeronautics and Space Administration engineers lost contact with the CAPSTONE mini-satellite heading to the Moon.
As reported by Ukrinform, Engadget reported it.
The 25-kilogram satellite lost contact with engineers shortly after leaving Earth’s orbit on July 4.
A NASA representative said the American agency’s team had reliable information about CAPSTONE’s orbit and now experts are trying to restore contact with the mini-satellite.
“If necessary, the mission will have enough fuel to delay the first trajectory correction maneuver after several days off the booster,” a spokesperson for the authority said.
CAPSTONE spent six days accelerating in orbit on Rocket Lab’s Electron rocket booster, and finally set sail for the moon on Monday.
As Ukrinform reports, on June 28, the American company Rocket Lab launched the Electron launch vehicle with NASA’s CAPSTONE mini-satellite.
CAPSTONE is going to the Moon to test orbital stability, which NASA plans to use for the future Gateway Space Station.
