Earlier this year at CES 2022, Samsung announced the establishment of the Home Connectivity Alliance (HCA) to improve the interoperability of IoT home devices in SmartThings. This HCA coalition may finally bear fruit in a few months at IFA 2022 in Berlin.
According to a new report, Samsung may expand its IoT platform at IFA this year through the Home Connectivity Alliance. The latest event is scheduled for the first week of September, and Samsung may reveal more about HCA on September 2.
Announced in January, the Home Connectivity Alliance is managed by Samsung. Participating companies include American Standard, Arçelik, Beko, Electrolux, GE Appliances, Grundig, Haier, Leader, Trane and Vestel.
Assuming a recent report is correct, Samsung’s SmartThings platform will receive a major update later this year and will gain compatibility with smart home devices made by all the aforementioned HCA members. Essentially, this coalition should help expand the SmartThings platform to include support for thousands of additional IoT devices and smart home appliances.
