That Sony is working on a PS5 Pro it’s not a secretIndeed, TCL itself has quite clearly confirmed that the Japanese company is working on the mentioned console and that Microsoft will also sooner or later launch an intergenerational refresh of the Xbox Series X. This also makes all the sense in the world, as it fits the strategy that Sony and Microsoft followed in the previous generation, when they put it on the market PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.
Unlike the PS5 Slim, which will be a smaller and cheaper version of the PS5, Sony will launch the PS5 Pro as more powerful console than the original model, but to what extent? That’s the question we’re all asking ourselves, and the truth is that we don’t yet have official information that would allow us to answer it quite precisely. However, thanks to the leaks and rumors that have been going on for the past few months, I can give you a fairly reliable answer.
On that subject, maybe the power of the PS5 Pro, and other important questions Related to another Sony console that we will talk about in this article. I’ve focused on answering questions that I know many of our readers have had on their minds for a long time, but if you think I’ve missed one, please leave it in the comments and I’ll address it for you.
Before starting, I want to remind you that all the information you will read below has an informal basis, that is, it is not confirmed, but it is quite reliable from part of trusted sources and my own personal experience. Obviously, some things may not be true and others may change, but that doesn’t change the fact that all data is perfectly trustworthy.
What will the PS5 Pro be?

PS5 version more powerful and bigger which will also have higher energy consumptionand that it will come with important changes at the hardware and design level. As it is a model equipped with more powerful components, it will also have higher production costs, although as we will see later, its selling price may end up being similar to that of the PS5.
What will be the most important changes that PS5 Pro will bring?
This new console will mount an all-new APU and it will have a more powerful CPU and GPU. As happened with the PS4 Pro at the time, it is likely that Sony will also take the opportunity to jump into a new manufacturing process that will allow it to reduce costs and improve the efficiency of this new APU.
We will dive into this topic because it is very important:
- The new APU should be manufactured on a 5nm node.
- A more advanced node reduces the space taken up by transistors, which translates into more space at the silicon level to connect a more powerful CPU and/or GPU.
- I think Sony will most likely keep the Zen 2’s 8-core, 16-thread processor and focus their efforts on fitting a much more powerful GPU, as was the case with the PS4 Pro at the time.
- The new PS5 Pro GPU could be based on the RDNA3 architecture and is rumored to be a stripped-down (non-infinite cache) version of the Radeon RX 7600 or Radeon RX 7700.
We can also expect it to come with the PS5 Pro greater amount of unified memory, probably between 18GB and 20GB and include a higher capacity SSD (I’m leaning towards at least 1TB).
With PS4 Pro, a Japanese company expanded the available memory for gaming by just 512 MB, thanks to the inclusion of 1GB of DDR3 for apps and the OS, so be aware that there’s a chance it’ll repeat this strategy. That’s why I said we could see a smaller increase to just 18GB.
Apparently, the PS5 Pro will also come with a sa new power and cooling system to keep the temperatures of these new components under control.
What improvements will the PS5 Pro offer compared to the PS5?

Thanks to the use of more powerful components, we can expect a higher gaming performance high resolution work and also with ray tracingthough the latter will largely depend on whether or not the PS5 Pro makes the leap to AMD’s RDNA3 architecture.
PS5 Pro in theory should be able to:
- Work with ease in 4K resolution natively, without the need for scaling or dynamic resolution.
- Master games with higher quality and more complex ray tracing with resolutions higher than 1080p.
- Maintain a higher and stable frame rate per second.
- Work with higher quality settings without fluidity issues.
- Enhancing current PS5 games, either by offering higher resolution, higher frames per second or higher graphics quality.
All in all, we shouldn’t get carried away by rumors that the PS5 Pro will be able to run games at 8K resolution. It will be compatible with said resolution, as the PS5 already is, but you will only be able to move it freely in multimedia content. Does this mean PS5 doesn’t have 8K games? Yes, The Touryst, but as you can see in the attached video, it’s a very simple game that has nothing to do with any current triple-A.
Will you have compatibility issues with PS5?
Not at all, in fact it should offer better compatibility than what we saw at the time with the arrival of the PS4 Pro. All PS5 games and peripherals arewill be compatible with PS5 Proand said that the console should improve games automatically thanks to the increased performance, although we still don’t know if Sony will repeat the approach we saw with the PS4 Pro or opt for a more interesting solution for users.
When will the PS5 Pro hit the market and what will it cost?

The most reliable sources I’ve had the chance to consult indicate that the PS5 Pro will hit the market between 2023 and 2024. Seeing the stock issues the PS5 is having, I’m more inclined to think it will be available sometime in 2024.
As for the price, we have two options. The first is that the PS5 Pro comes after the PS5 Slim, a console that should cost 100 euros less than the PS5. If that happens, the PS5 Slim will most likely cost 399 euros and the PS5 Pro will have a price 499 euros. It’s a choice that makes the most sense because that’s exactly what Sony did with the launch of the PS4 Pro.
The second possibility is that Sony will launch the PS5 Pro when it has not yet reduced the price of the PS5, which would mean that the cost of the said console would be at least €599. Both options are open, so keep that in mind, although I personally lean more toward the former.
Will it have stock issues like the PS5?
Given the issues this console has had and what still lies ahead until its availability in the retail channel is normalized, it’s hard to say with absolute certainty that the PS5 Pro won’t have stock issues, but the truth is I think it’s the most likelyas its launch will take place in 2024 and by then the supply chain situation should be normalized and Sony should also have more production capacity.
Will Sony release a cheaper PS5 Pro without an optical drive?
It could be, but I doubt it, as it would end up costing the PS5 Slim down and force Sony to distribute components between two different models. Still, it would be an interesting possibility. if the price of the PS5 Pro with an optical drive ends at 599 euros, from that digital version it could be 499 euros and the PS5 Slim for 399 euros.
