The gap left by sound equipment (mini strings, micro strings and other strings) a few years ago is already being filled. Bluetooth speakers, some more and some less portable, are here to leave a trail of dust on the shelf again.

The speaker we are reviewing today, Damn BOOMSTERis the design of the German brand Teufel, which has been active in the industry since 1979. Currently, they are engaged in the direct sale of a whole range of quality audio products, from home theater systems to sound solutions for televisions, multimedia systems, classic Hi-Fi, headphones, etc. We already had the opportunity to analyze the Teufel Motiv Go and it did not leave us indifferent.

After opening the box, we find a large and robust speaker with a grill that takes up the entire front, finished with a smooth edge that protrudes a little and serves as a grill protector. At the top, we find a series of buttons with haptic feedback on the control panel with a rubberized surface, as well as a handle (quite durable) for carrying it, given its dimensions and weight (37 cm wide x 18 cm high x 14.8 cm deep and 3, 75 kg). On the back we find the input and output connectors (3.5 mm audio cable, charging connector, USB and mini USB connection), covered by a flexible cover, and a folded antenna that allows us to use the radio.

The first impression that the BOOMSTER gives us is that of a quality speaker with good finishes and an off-road profile, which will equally liven up a party on the terrace or look luxurious with the decoration of a shelf in the living room. Perhaps leaving us a little cold is the remote control, which, despite the fact that it may be a secondary element, does not fit either with the aesthetics or with the level of quality that we see with the speaker. It even looks like a generic remote that we bought because the original one stopped working.

Despite the large dimensions and weight of the BOOMSTER, Teufel offers us the possibility of using it in a portable way even outside, for this reason it has a high-capacity lithium-ion battery and fast charging that plays for up to 18 hours at medium volume. A fully discharged battery is fully charged in 165 minutes. In addition, the speaker housing is robust, absorbs any impact and has IPX5 protection against splashes or jets of water. Extra if you want to use it outdoors.

Despite this, the remote control gives us an idea that the best place for our BOOMSTER to “live” is in the living room (or bedroom, kitchen…). It also has an integrated screen that will provide us with information about searching for Bluetooth devices, volume, etc., an AUX input for external players via a Jack cable and a striking USB connection as a power bank for charging a smartphone. Which may be more useful on the go, but also takes a toll on battery life. A question of priorities.

connectivity

Launching the BOOMSTER is very simple, in a few moments we sync the bluetooth with our smartphone (or the device we want) and we can press play. The connection is made via bluetooth 5.0, multipoint, to be able to connect more than one device at the same time and change the music (and not argue about the playlist), and it has a Qualcomm aptX sound module to improve the sound quality, although it should be noted that in not currently available for iOS.

Thanks to the TWS (True Wireless Stereo) option, we can pair two BOOMSTER sound systems with our smartphone and split the left and right stereo channels to get more powerful sound.

The Teufel speaker is compatible with Alexa and Google Home for voice control and can even be connected to an Amazon device. However, this is a slightly more complicated process than simply connecting it to the same network and having Alexa create an audio “circuit” or something. Depending on the device we have, we have to use an AUX cable or establish a wireless connection to create a stereo system between the assistant and the Teufel BOOMSTER.

Sound quality

Thanks to its closed 2.1 stereo system with Dynamore technology, which consists of two tweeters and two midrange speakers, the BOOMSTER provides stable and good sound quality and has a Frontfire subwoofer that allows you to individually adjust the bass at different levels. two passive diaphragms that give them precision.

If we want to use it as audio support for video playback devices, it should be noted that it has lip sync technology. In other words, if we watch a video on any platform, the audio will be lip-synced, saving us the worry of watching a video with outdated audio.

At the back we find something that many of you may not know, a telescopic antenna for tuning the radio. This speaker has an integrated FM-RDS and DAB+ tuner for automatic station search, either using the 3 buttons integrated on the top panel (FM) or digitally (DAB+).

Teufel BOOMSTER: conclusions

The Teufel BOOMSTER speaker offers great sound quality inside a robust device, with quality workmanship and a terrain profile that, despite its large dimensions and weight, allows us to use it both indoors and outdoors. Because portability doesn’t conflict with design or quality.
