This type of testing is important as ransomware attacks are becoming more common, especially those that target large companies. Ransomware is a type of malicious software that essentially “hijacks” user files from an infected computer and demands a ransom to restore them. Files are locked with encryption and in some cases they are encrypted more than oncewhich makes recovery even more difficult.

Many security experts advise victims of attacks not to pay the ransom, as there is no guarantee that the perpetrators of the attack will recover files after payment.

Microsoft Defender for home and business users was well rated in 10 scenarios.
