Sony has released PlayStation 5 system update 22.01-05.50 and here is what it did. As spotted by the PS5 Twitter firmware bot ‘PS5FwBot’, a new firmware update for the Sony console adds new Automatic Low Latency Mode (ALLM) options to the platform. These options are accessible from the Display and Video Console options in the Settings menu. If enabled, the connected TV will automatically switch to low latency mode while playing games. This mode allows your TV to disable any post-graphics processing and display game content with the lowest possible latency.

In addition to adding new ALLM options, the new firmware further improves the console’s system performance – something Sony seems to have developed since the PS5, which was released in November 2020.

Sony’s PS5 is already available worldwide, but consoles are still hard to find due to persistent shortages. As reported earlier this year, year-round supply should improve due to increased understanding. At least that’s what Turtle Beach CEO Jürgen Stark said during a phone call with investors.

“We expect supply restrictions to ease significantly by the time we go on vacation,” the CEO said. “We don’t expect delivery times to be significantly reduced or anything like that, we expect emissions reductions, improvements and performance to the Xbox and PlayStation offerings, mainly because it’s true the fact that we’re all in this environment now, over a year”.

“So our lead times for semiconductors, all of which are insanely high, but now that we’re used to it, they don’t hinder our supply. And we order ahead. We expect Microsoft and Sony to do the same. And once it comes into effect, the supply constraint should be eased. Frankly, it’s hard to predict. We can’t say, but that’s exactly what we’re assuming in the numbers, and I think that’s a reasonable assumption.” Source
