In 2015, Israel officially recognized the existence of a previously classified type of military equipment – a mobile missile launcher on a tracked tank chassis – the Pereh missile tank. This “rocket tank” can be called the world’s first self-propelled anti-tank installation on the horizon. The operator of the combat vehicle directs the missile to the target according to the television image transmitted to him. At the same time, the missile complex can hit targets at a distance of up to 25 kilometers. To preserve secrecy, this combat vehicle acted only as part of armored columns. The tank is designed to attack fixed and well-protected mobile enemy targets.

The Israelis chose their own version of the American medium tank M48A5 (Patton III) as a base for their missile complexes. The Israeli name of this machine, which received a dynamic protection complex, is Magach 5.

The main and only weapon of the Pereh tank is the universal Spike-NLOS missiles of the Spike family. Also known as Rafael Tamuz in Israel. The rocket was created in Israel in the early 1990s by the Rafael concern (80%) along with other companies. The decision to declassify was made only in October 2010.

According to 2011 data, the cost of such a missile was 145,000 US dollars. The effective range of these missiles is up to 25 km. The weight of a rocket in a transport container is 71 kg. The average flight speed of the missile is 130-180 m/s, armor penetration is steel homogeneous armor up to 1000 mm. These missiles can be used effectively at temperatures between -32 and +49 degrees Celsius and can be stored at temperatures between -45 and +71 degrees Celsius. Depending on the tasks to be solved, the missile can be equipped with warheads of different types – fragmentation, cumulative or multifunctional.

Spike-NLOS is a multi-purpose, multi-platform electro-optical missile system designed to destroy enemy armored vehicles, well-protected objects (such as bunkers, bunkers, howitzers) and other engineering structures, as well as enemy personnel and surface targets. The missile complex can be installed on land, air or sea ships.

The rocket of the complex was made according to the classical aerodynamic scheme with wings opened in flight. Spike NLOS missiles can be directed to the target by satellite or UAV. At the same time, the missile has its own target stabilization system and remote control, implemented with the help of a two-way electronic-optical image transmission system, such a solution significantly expands the combat use possibilities of the complex.

The use of a two-way electronic-optical image transmission system allows the operator of the missile complex to control the launched missile in 3 modes: “Fire and forget”, “Fire, evaluate and adjust”, “Fire and aim at the target”. The presence of different modes of missile launch allows you to achieve maximum accuracy even at long combat distances, and also allows you to direct the missile to a more important target and minimize unwanted casualties during a missile attack mission.

The operator can still aim at the target after launching the missile from closed positions, thus reducing the risk of “friendly fire”. And the presence of the “fire and forget” mode allows the operator to very quickly switch to other targets immediately after launch.

Missiles of the Israeli Spike NLOS complex can be used both day and night. The speed of deployment, compactness and firepower of the complex make it possible to reduce the dependence of small troops on air and artillery support on the battlefield, allowing them to effectively fight tanks, fortifications and other targets that are difficult for conventional weapons. attack.

In addition to Israel, this missile system is in service in South Korea, which has purchased 67 Spike-NLOS systems. These missile complexes are located on the border of the DPRK and on the islands in the Yellow Sea.
