Tesla adds two new fatal accidents

One of Tesla’s most innovative designs is that it refers to a set of driving assistance systems, a package the company insists on calling with terms that lead us to believe they’re making their vehicles fully autonomous, when in fact they’re not. We already talked about this when the company opened the beta version of its Full Self-Driving to more users, and that it actually came from before with the highly promoted Auto Pilot.

As I’ve mentioned on multiple occasions, I think there’s an important distinction between the professionals who work on the design of driver assistance features for Tesla cars and those who are responsible for marketing (besides Elon Musk himself) when it comes to selling what their vehicles are capable ofwhat we can expect from them and, of course, what we should not do if we value our lives and the lives of others.

As we can read in The Verge, Recently, there have been two fatal accidents, in which two Tesla vehicles would engage in the use of self-driving features. Both incidents would be investigated by the U.S. Federal Highway Traffic Safety Administration, meaning the agency currently has 16 Tesla investigations open.

One of the two accidents happened in Florida, where A Tesla would fatally run over a pedestrianthe other in Florida where A Tesla with two passengers would have collided with the rear of the truck with the trailer that was on the rest stop at the time. Both cases are open investigations, and Tesla would cooperate with both investigations, according to investigators.

Doubts in both cases relate both to whether the vehicles were moving autonomously and to whether or not they were whether the emergency systems of both cars should have intervened to avoid collisions both pedestrian and truck trailer. We will have to wait to know the outcome of both investigations, as well as parts of the remaining ones that the US federal agency has already opened.

Still, it’s getting clearer Tesla should rethink communication about its assistance systems. It is indisputable and therefore indisputable that the company has made tremendous progress and that it is currently at the cutting edge. However, the combination of miscommunication and multiple accidents can be devastating even with generally good results.
