Intel updates its NUC X15 laptops with Alder Lake and Arc Alchemist GPUs

Last year, the chip giant introduced Intel NUC X15 laptops equipped with Tiger Lake (Core Gen11) H-series processors, and then decided to use NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 Mobile graphics cards. These devices played an important role for OEMs as they were designed as a customizable white label base that they could customize to their needs and preferences and later sell under their brand name.

We already knew that it was only a matter of time before Intel adapted the design of the NUC X15 to the implementation of its own graphics solutions, which we can finally confirm today thanks to Videocardz. Intel has made a significant update to this line of white notebooks as it introduced new Alder Lake-H processorsas well as its new dedicated graphics solutions Intel Arc Alchemist.

At the moment we have details of two versions, the Intel NUC X15 C71H, which will be equipped with an Intel Core i7-12700H and graphics Intel Arc A730Mand the Intel NUC X15 C71G, which will come with the same processor but will have graphics Intel Arc A550M. Obviously, the first one will be the strongest. It amazes me to see that the chip giant is not considering using the Arc A770M at the moment, a graphics solution that will become the most powerful of its generation.

We were also able to find a link to model C51G, though we don’t have details on its eventual specs. However, when comparing the numbering, it seems clear that will have a lower configuration to the C71G model. It will be interesting to see the graphics performance that these new Intel NUC X15 are able to offer compared to the previous generation models which, as we told you earlier, were equipped with GeForce RTX 30 Mobile series graphics cards.

Based on the latest benchmarks we’ve seen, the Intel Arc A730M is only marginally better than the GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Mobile, while Intel Arc 770M is 12% more powerful than GeForce RTX 3060 Mobilewhich means that the chip giant would have nothing to compete with NVIDIA at the high end, where the GeForce RTX 3070 Mobile, GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Mobile, GeForce RTX 3080 Mobile and GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Mobile sit.

In terms of design, we do not expect any major changes from the previous generation for the X15 NUC with Alder Lake and Arc Alchemist GPUs. We don’t yet have details on when these new models will be available, but as we said, they will arrive directly in the hands of OEMs who will be able to customize them. For a rough reference, I’ll leave you with a complete list with previous generation keys based on Tiger Lake.
