Intel acknowledged that integrated graphics UHD 770 introduced in many Alder Lake generation processors cause problems stutter in Chromium-based web browsers which runs on Windows. This means that Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge are affected, in addition to other minorities such as Opera, Brave and Vivaldi. The original source build of Chromium can also be counted, but the use of the browser under this condition is widespread only among Linux users.

In a statement, the chip giant informs that “recent drivers for Intel UHD Graphics 770 12th Gen Intel Core processors are causing significant lag in Edge* and Chrome* browsers. Browsers act like they are frozen. Click response delay is 2 seconds, scrolling is very laggy and choppy. The problem can be replicated by opening many tabs at once or by scrolling, clicking and using a mechanical hard disk drive (HDD).

In other words, and sticking with what the company said, the latest versions of the UHD 770 graphics drivers seem to have ruined the experience. Users of mechanical hard drives are clearly affected more than those using SSDs, which may be due to the slowness of HDDs, which have been one of the main bottlenecks found in home computers for years.

The environment in which the error was reproduced was a computer that had an MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4 motherboard, an Intel Core i5-12600K processor and a Windows 10 operating system, but others such as Core i5-12500TE, Core i5 -12600, Core i7- 12700, Core i7-12700K, Core i9-12900 and Core i9-12900K should also be affected by the bug.

To resolve the issue, Intel recommended updating your web browser to the latest version, updating your operating system (Windows), remove and clean install graphics driversexcept for turning off hardware acceleration or replace the mechanical hard drive with an SSD.

Chromium or some of its derivatives don’t seem to be doing well, as a serious vulnerability was discovered this week that was exploited against Chrome. We are not yet aware of the bug discovered in the Intel UHD 770 graphics affecting Linux, but if found, it would be a good idea to report it to the company and wait for an update, which will most likely arrive via the kernel and/or spreadsheet.
