A team of engineers from the University of Minnesota in Duluth (USA) developed a robot designed to assist people with dementia.
As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by Axios.
The first copy has already started working at one of their old homes in Minnesota.
It is stated that the robot can make eye contact, respond to facial expressions and talk to humans.
It’s also programmed to provide entertainment, conduct “cognitive therapy” and recognize when patients’ routines change.
“This is an important step and a start in improving the quality of life of the elderly and dementia patients with the help of humanoid robots,” said Arshia Khan, professor of computer science involved in the project.
In the coming weeks, the robots are expected to start working in seven more senior homes across Minnesota.
As Ukrinform reports, at a hospital in Hastings, Nebraska, doctors are using a robot to detect lung diseases, including cancer.
