According to local media reports, a Colombian court has ruled to ban the import and sale of iPhone smartphones and iPad tablets that support 5G networks due to infringement of Ericsson-related patents.
The above decision was reportedly taken at the Supreme Court in Bogota, the Colombian capital, in April. Apple has been found to have violated Ericsson’s native patent NC2019/0003681, which is the main technology standard for 5G valid until December 2037.
The Colombian court began enforcing the ruling on July 6, after Ericsson sent a $50,000 bond. As part of the injunction, Apple is prohibited from importing, selling, distributing or promoting products that infringe Ericsson’s copyrights, namely all 5G-enabled iPhone and iPad models. Namely the iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and the company’s new tablets.
Although Apple appealed, Judge Ronald Neil Orozco Gomez ruled that Apple could not initiate counter-injunctive relief, meaning the injunction would not be affected. Source
