The Richard Mille company, together with Ferrari, created the world’s thinnest mechanical watch, which costs much more than most supercars of the Italian brand. The model, simply called the RM UP-01 Ferrari, costs $1.888 million. Only 150 of this watch will be produced.

As for the main feature, the thickness of the watch is only 1.75 mm! That’s right, it’s only 0.05mm thinner than the previous record holder, the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra, but it’s an incredibly thin device in any case. At the same time, the thickness of the clockwork is even smaller – 1.18 mm. The watch is mainly made of titanium with additives of aluminum and vanadium. Richard Mille says it took more than 6,000 man-hours to create the new product.

Created in collaboration with the Ferrari team, the RM UP-01 model is the result of many years of work, dozens of prototypes and more than 6,000 hours of development and laboratory testing. The challenge of creating an ultra-thin watch has eliminated the possibility of using a traditional clockwork mechanism with multi-level gear and lever arrangement. Realizing the impossibility of placing all the components on a larger board, the masters of Richard Mille decided to distribute them in such a way that the perfect symbiosis of the mechanism and the case was achieved, and one would ensure the strength and rigidity of the other. In the case, we wanted to preserve the traditional architecture in which the mechanism is mounted, rather than an assembly where the back cover replicates the board to ensure durability in all conditions.

Despite its ultra-thin case, the watch is water resistant (up to 10 meters) and can withstand accelerations of up to 5,000 g. The power reserve is reportedly equal to 45 hours. Source
