There was a time when shutting down a computer could have been risky and therefore suspending was preferred as boot times were very slow. Although this stage has passed, there are still people who think that turning off a computer can cause discomfort.

While it’s true that shutting down your computer means additional wear and tear, it’s nothing dramatic.

This is because frequent power cycles damage components. Every time you turn on your computer, the power supply, motherboard and graphics card wear out due to the charging capacitors.

But don’t worry, this is normal. Night closures are fine and recommended. According to the Rocky Mountain Institute’s Home Energy Summary, modern computers are built to withstand 40,000 power cycles.

Also, keeping the PC turned on all the time also significantly reduces its lifespan, according to special media Computer Hoy. This is mainly due to the capacitor.

These critical voltage regulation and filtering components have a limited lifespan, typically around 32,000 hours for electrolytic diversity. This equates to a little over 3.5 years. So if we turn off our equipment for about 10 to 12 hours once a day, we would be doubling their life expectancy.
